New England Yacht Charter

Historic harbours. The Atlantic at its most New England.

A New England yacht charter is defined by island-hopping, short Atlantic passages, lobster-shack coves and a blend of maritime history and understated natural beauty that rewards those who take the time to move slowly through it. From the shellfish waters of Cuttyhunk and the picturesque seaside village of Woods Hole to the whaling heritage of Nantucket, the yachting scene of Newport and the vineyard-covered summer destination of Martha’s Vineyard, routes are shaped around your pace, whether that means lively harbour towns and dining ashore or quiet anchorages and unhurried days onboard.

Princess Yacht Charter curates each luxury yacht charter in New England around your timing and preferences, carefully matching yacht, crew and itinerary to your group so the experience feels seamless from embarkation to return.

Why New England remains a
charter favourite

New England is one of the Atlantic’s most rewarding cruising regions, where the island chain from Martha’s Vineyard to Newport and the sheltered waters of Nantucket Sound mean short passage days between genuinely distinct destinations.

The contrast between the Kennedy-era social scene of Hyannis and the total peace of Tarpaulin Cove on privately owned Naushon Island allows itineraries to move naturally between activity and quiet. The summer season here is defined by a specific New England pace — unhurried, historically rich and well-fed — which is why local knowledge and thoughtful planning make the difference.

New England
1
Day 1
Martha's Vinyard to Cuttyhunk
Begin your charter at Cuttyhunk, known for its shellfish and game bass, where a floating raw bar will deliver your order straight to the boat, the bunkers on Lookout Hill are now picnic areas and the nightlife, in the best possible way, is non-existent.
2
Day 2
Cuttyhunk to Tarpaulin Cove
Arrive at Tarpaulin Cove on the privately owned Naushon Island, where tender trips to the beach are permitted and trips beyond are not — the point is to anchor here, sit on deck and absorb the views and the quiet.
3
Day 3
Tarpaulin Cove to Woods Hole
Cruise to Woods Hole, a picturesque seaside village of marine science, scenic Eel Pond walks, quaint shops and good restaurants that offers exactly the kind of relaxed afternoon a New England charter calls for.
4
Day 4
Woods Hole to Hyannis
Sail to Hyannis, the heart of Cape Cod, where sweeping sandy beaches, good museums, craft beer and the cultural legacy of the Kennedy family summer compound have made it one of the most recognisable harbour towns in New England.
5
Day 5
Hyannis to Cape Cod
Discover Cape Cod’s 900 kilometres of beaches across sixty individual stretches and fifteen towns, with game fishing — the activity Cape Cod is perhaps best known for — available from the deck or ashore.
7
Day 7
Nantucket to Newport
Unwind in Newport, Rhode Island, a prime yachting destination on Narragansett Bay with picturesque shorelines, sweeping Cliff Walk views, hidden beaches and a historic downtown of shops, galleries and restaurants that earns the attention it receives.
8
Day 8
Newport to Martha’s Vineyard
Conclude your charter at Martha’s Vineyard, the island summer destination south of Cape Cod where AVA-designated wines, independent towns and the atmosphere that has drawn artists, writers and summer visitors for generations make for a fitting final anchorage.

Best time to charter New England

MAY JUNE JULY AUGUST SEPTEMBER OCTOBER

The main charter season runs from June to September, when temperatures are warm, the harbours are at their most active and the New England summer season is fully under way. July and August are peak months, with the best weather and the liveliest atmosphere across the islands.

June and September offer excellent conditions with fewer crowds, particularly at the quieter anchorages around Cuttyhunk and the Elizabeth Islands. The autumn colours in September make it one of the most visually rewarding times to be on the water in this part of the world.

June to September is the main season. July and August are warmest and liveliest. June and September offer quieter anchorages with excellent conditions.

How many destinations can we visit in one week?

Typically 5–7 stops between Martha’s Vineyard and Newport, depending on pace and routing. Nantucket and Newport each reward at least a full day.

Is New England suitable for families?

Yes. Sheltered harbours, beaches at every stop, the maritime history and the straightforward passages between islands make it well-suited to groups travelling across different ages.

Can I combine New England with other East Coast destinations?

Yes. New York and the Hudson River are within reach to the south, and Maine’s coast lies to the north for those wanting to extend the charter into more rugged Atlantic territory.
