Arctic & Antarctica Yacht Charter

Polar wilderness, extraordinary encounters.

A polar yacht charter — whether to the Arctic waters of Svalbard and Norway or the extraordinary wilderness of Antarctica — offers an experience of a different order entirely. Wildlife encounters at close range, glaciers of considerable scale and landscapes unchanged by human activity define both destinations, and the yacht provides the only practical way to access the most remote and rewarding parts of either region.

+

Polar charter is defined by access. A well-equipped expedition yacht can reach coastlines, fjords and wildlife sites that no other form of travel can approach, and the combination of an experienced crew and a skilled expedition team means that each day's itinerary is shaped by conditions and opportunity rather than a fixed schedule.

In the Arctic, Svalbard delivers polar bears on glacier edges, walrus colonies and seabird cliffs of considerable scale. In Antarctica, the scale of the ice, the density of the wildlife and the stillness of the landscape combine to produce an experience that rewards guests with curiosity, patience and a willingness to let the environment set the terms.

Why choose an Arctic or Antarctica yacht charter

Guests choose polar charter for the access it provides and the quality of the experience that access delivers. There is no other way to reach the interior fjords of Svalbard, the calving glaciers of the Antarctic Peninsula or the remote wildlife sites that define both regions.

The yacht provides comfort, warmth and a base from which to explore. The expedition team provides the knowledge and the context. What the destination provides is a landscape and a wildlife encounter that very few people ever see.

When to Charter the Arctic & Antarctica

JANUARY FEBRUARY MARCH APRIL MAY JUNE JULY AUGUST SEPTEMBER OCTOBER NOVEMBER DECEMBER

The Arctic season runs from June to August, when ice conditions allow access to the High Arctic and the midnight sun keeps the landscape visible around the clock. July and August offer the most reliable wildlife encounters.

Antarctica is best visited between November and February, with December and January offering the longest daylight hours and the most active wildlife, including penguin chick hatching and whale feeding.

FAQs

What is the difference between an Arctic and an Antarctic charter?

The Arctic, centred on Svalbard and northern Norway, is accessible from June to August and is known for polar bears, walrus and the midnight sun. Antarctica is visited between November and February and offers a larger scale of ice, denser wildlife colonies and a more remote character.

What level of experience is required for a polar charter?

No prior sailing or expedition experience is required. The crew and expedition team manage all aspects of the voyage. A willingness to adapt to changing conditions and an interest in the natural environment are the qualities that most define a good polar charter guest.

What wildlife can guests expect to see?

In the Arctic, polar bears, walrus, reindeer, Arctic fox and large seabird colonies are the primary highlights. In Antarctica, penguins, leopard seals, humpback and minke whales, and albatross are commonly encountered.

How long should a polar charter be?

A minimum of ten days to two weeks is recommended for either destination, to allow for passage time, variable conditions and the best wildlife encounter opportunities. Longer charters allow for more remote and less-visited sites.
