Mexico Yacht Charter

Mexico offers wilderness and warmth in equal measure. The Sea of Cortéz earns its reputation at every anchorage.

A Mexico yacht charter is defined by island-hopping, short Sea of Cortéz passages, UNESCO-protected waters and a blend of extraordinary marine life and remote Baja wilderness that rewards those who want the edge of the world within reach of a superyacht. From the bohemian harbour of La Paz and the sea lion colony of Los Islotes to the sculpted pink rock formations of Isla Espíritu Santo, the mangrove lagoons of Bahía Amortajada and the whale sharks and blue whales of the Sea of Cortéz, routes are shaped around your pace, whether that means vibrant beach towns and dining ashore or quiet uninhabited island anchorages onboard.

Princess Yacht Charter curates each luxury yacht charter in Mexico around your timing and preferences, carefully matching yacht, crew and itinerary to your group so the experience feels seamless from embarkation to return.

Why Mexico remains a
charter favourite

Mexico’s Baja California peninsula is one of the world’s most rewarding cruising regions, where Jacques Cousteau’s Aquarium of the World, over 900 islands and UNESCO biosphere status make short passage days between genuinely extraordinary destinations the norm rather than the exception.

The contrast between the vibrant bohemian energy of La Paz and the total solitude of uninhabited Isla Espíritu Santo allows itineraries to move naturally between culture and wilderness. The marine life here — whale sharks, sea turtles, blue whales, sea lions and dolphins at almost every anchorage — is the reason this corner of Mexico keeps drawing people back.

A curated Mexico journey

Sample eight-day route from Cabo San Lucas

Distance

278 nm

Duration

12h45m

1
Day 1
Cabo San Lucas to La Paz
Begin your charter in La Paz, the bohemian capital of the Baja, where white sand beaches, exceptional sports fishing, isolated coves and a youthful vibrant scene make it one of the most authentically appealing harbour towns on the Pacific coast of Mexico.
2
Day 2
La Paz
Spend a full day exploring La Paz — the malecón waterfront, the local markets and the kind of barefoot-meets-upscale character that makes this city feel unlike anywhere else in Mexico.
3
Day 3
La Paz to Isla Espíritu Santo
Cruise to Isla Espíritu Santo, the 12th-largest island in Mexico and a UNESCO biosphere reserve of soft pink and chocolate rock formations, dolphins, sea lions, blue-footed boobies and rays drifting along the surface. Snorkelling, diving and kayaking among wildlife that has no particular interest in departing.
4
Day 4
Isla Espíritu Santo to Isla Partida
Sail to Isla Partida, separated from Espíritu Santo by a narrow channel it is sometimes possible to wade across at low tide. Home to Ensenada Grande — celebrated as one of the most beautiful beaches in all of Mexico — with Tiffany-blue water, sculpted rock formations and fish tacos made fresh on the beach.
5
Day 5
Isla Partida to Los Islotes
Discover Los Islotes, a craggy rock in the Sea of Cortéz and home to the sea lion colony that helps earn Baja its reputation as the Galapagos of North America. Snorkel with the sea lions, who are as curious about their visitors as the visitors are about them.
6
Day 6
Los Islotes to Bahía Amortajada
Experience Bahía Amortajada, a peaceful mangrove-fringed bay of shimmering hues at the southern end of Isla San José — a beautiful place to drop anchor for a morning of swimming, snorkelling and the particular quiet of a bay with no road access.
7
Day 7
Bahía Amortajada to Sea of Cortéz
Unwind in the open Sea of Cortéz, Jacques Cousteau’s Aquarium of the World, where hundreds of whale sharks, sea turtles, killer whales, blue whales and the Humboldt squid make every hour on the water an encounter with something remarkable.
8
Day 8
Sea of Cortéz to Baja California
Conclude your charter along the Baja California coast, where taco stands, tiny villages, desert dreamscapes, UNESCO cave paintings, Spanish missions and the turquoise beaches of Cabo Pulmo make this one of the most atmospheric final days in any charter destination.

JANUARY FEBRUARY MARCH APRIL MAY JUNE JULY AUGUST SEPTEMBER OCTOBER NOVEMBER DECEMBER

The main charter season runs from November to May, when the Sea of Cortéz is at its calmest and the weather on the Baja coast is consistently warm and settled. December to April is peak season, with temperatures between 20 and 28°C.

June to October brings warmer water and increased hurricane risk on the Pacific side, though whale shark season in La Paz runs from October to May and the marine life encounters are exceptional throughout the winter months.

FAQs

When is the best time for a Mexico yacht charter?

November to May for the most settled conditions on the Sea of Cortéz. Whale shark season in La Paz runs October to May, making late autumn and winter the prime window for that encounter.

How many islands can we visit in one week?

Typically 5–7 stops between Cabo San Lucas and the Sea of Cortéz, depending on pace and routing. Isla Espíritu Santo and Isla Partida each reward a full day.

Is Mexico suitable for families?

Yes. The sea lion encounters at Los Islotes, the snorkelling conditions throughout and the UNESCO biosphere waters make it exceptional for adventurous families.

Can I combine Mexico with other Pacific destinations?

Cabo San Lucas is the natural starting or finishing point and is well connected by international flights. The Sea of Cortéz is typically chartered as a standalone destination given its remote and unique character.
