Komodo dragons. Manta rays. The wilder fringes of the Pacific.

An Indonesia yacht charter is defined by island-hopping, short passages through the Komodo National Park, volcanic horizons and a blend of prehistoric wildlife and extraordinary underwater life that exists nowhere else on earth. From the luminous night dives of Wainilu and the freely roaming Komodo dragons of Rinca Island to the twin peaks of Sangeang Island Volcano and the underwater gardens of West Komodo, routes are shaped around your pace, whether that means active diving days and wildlife hikes ashore or quiet anchorages and unhurried exploration onboard.

Why Indonesia remains a
charter favourite

Indonesia is one of the world’s most rewarding cruising regions, where the 26 islands of the Komodo National Park, 14 species of whale and dolphin and some of the most diverse coral reefs on the planet mean short passage days between genuinely extraordinary destinations.

The contrast between the prehistoric wildlife of Komodo Island and the bioluminescent night dives of Wainilu allows itineraries to move naturally between adventure above and below the waterline. The Komodo National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which is why local knowledge and thoughtful planning are essential to making the most of every stop.

Duration

6h30m

1
Day 1
Rinca Island to Loh Buaya and Wainilu
Begin your charter at the Wainilu dive site on the edge of Loh Buaya Bay, where the thick mangroves come alive after dark with luminous species that light up the water like a night garden — one of the most memorable dive experiences in the archipelago
2
Day 2
Loh Buaya and Wainilu to Komodo Island
Arrive at Komodo Island, where Komodo dragons roam freely, 14 species of whale and dolphin patrol the surrounding waters and sheets of coral cover the seafloor. The 26 islands of the national park make this one of the great yacht-hopping destinations in the wilder reaches of the Pacific.
3
Day 3
Komodo Island
Spend a full day exploring Komodo’s land and sea — guided treks through the national park to observe the dragons in their territory, and diving or snorkelling the surrounding reef systems where the underwater life matches the drama above the waterline.
4
Day 4
Komodo Island to West Komodo
Sail to West Komodo, a diver’s destination of exceptional underwater gardens, manta rays, sea turtles, clownfish and whale sharks. Take a detour to nearby Flores — the Island of Flowers — for coffee plantations, volcanic scenery and rice paddy hillsides.
5
Day 5
West Komodo to Gili Banta
Discover Gili Banta, positioned where the Indian and Pacific Oceans meet, with drift dives, pinnacle dives and schools of fluorescent fish drawing divers from across the region. Captivating coves and inlets provide some of the most striking anchor spots on the route.
6
Day 6
Gili Banta
Experience a full day at Gili Banta — diving the channels, exploring the inlets by tender and watching the extraordinary meeting point of two oceans from the deck.
7
Day 7
Gili Banta to Sangeang Island Volcano
Sail to Sangeang Island, part of the Pacific Ring of Fire, where the volcanic cone rises to two near-identical peaks of 2,000 metres. From the deck, puffs of ash occasionally billow from the summit — most striking against an orange and pink Pacific sunset.
8
Day 8
Sangeang Island to Langkoi Bay, Lehoksera Bay and Rinca Island
Conclude your charter at Lehoksera Bay for reef sharks, manta rays and humphead wrasse, before returning to Rinca Island — the Land of the Dragon, a prehistoric paradise of dense forest, rolling fields and Horseshoe Bay, where the wild and wonderful can be observed from the deck if the mood calls for it.

Best time to charter Indonesia

APRIL MAY JUNE JULY AUGUST SEPTEMBER OCTOBER

The main charter season in Komodo runs from April to October, when the dry season brings calm seas, consistent winds and the best visibility for diving. April to June and September to October offer the most settled conditions and fewer boats at the popular dive sites.

July and August bring the highest winds in the Komodo region, which can affect passage comfort but improve drift diving conditions. Local knowledge is essential for planning routes around the currents that make these waters so rich.

Indonesia Charter
FAQs

When is the best time for an Indonesia yacht charter?

April to October is the main season. May, June and September offer the best balance of calm seas, good visibility and fewer other boats at the dive sites.

How many islands can we visit in one week?

Typically 5–8 stops across the Komodo National Park, depending on pace and dive schedule. The 26 islands of the park offer more variety than most groups can cover in a single charter.

Is Indonesia suitable for families?

Yes. The Komodo dragon treks, the bioluminescent night dives and the wildlife encountered at every stop make it exceptional for adventurous families. Some dive sites require experience, which the crew will advise on.

Can I combine Indonesia with other destinations?

The Komodo National Park is typically chartered as a standalone destination given its remote location, though Bali is within reach as a starting or finishing point for those who want to combine the charter with time ashore.
