Why The Maldives remains a
charter favourite

The Maldives is one of the Indian Ocean’s most rewarding cruising regions, where 1,200 coral islands across 26 atolls mean short passages between dive sites of extraordinary variety — reef walls, underwater archways, wreck dives, coral gardens and night fishing beneath clear starry skies.

The contrast between the local Rasdhoo island community of 1,200 residents and the five-star overwater resort experience of One & Only Reethi Rah allows itineraries to move naturally between authentic island life and premium luxury. The marine reserve status of several dive sites means local knowledge and thoughtful planning are essential.

9h30m

1
Day 1
Malé to Guraidhoo Kandu
Begin your charter at Guraidhoo Kandu, a protected marine reserve in the South Malé Atoll with two main channels drawing sharks, rays, napoleon fish and more through reef walls, coral gardens and underwater archways — a site that can be dived several times and yield something different each time.
2
Day 2
Guraidhoo Kandu to Mushimasmigili
Arrive at Mushimasmigili, where the reef diving is exceptional and night fishing beneath clear Maldivian skies offers a different way to experience the nocturnal world beneath the surface.
3
Day 3
Mushimasmigili to Rasdhoo
Cruise to Rasdhoo, a local island of around 1,200 residents with Bikini Beach stretching 500 metres along the shore and a house reef where parrotfish, barracuda, tuna and black and white reef tip sharks can be found on the outer edge.
4
Day 4
Rasdhoo to One & Only Reethi Rah
Sail to One & Only Reethi Rah, where sea turtles, whale sharks, trumpetfish and a kaleidoscopic coral world await beneath twelve beaches — with dining, a climbing wall and resort facilities for those who want more than the water offers.
5
Day 5
One & Only Reethi Rah to Goidhoo
Discover Goidhoo in the Baa Atoll, where bioluminescent plankton lights the shallows after dark, giant hermit crabs crawl the white shores by day and diving among turtles, rays and dolphins makes this one of the most enchanting stops on the route.
6
Day 6
Goidhoo to The Shipyard
Experience the Shipyard, one of the Lhaviyani Atoll’s most celebrated dive sites, where a wreck strewn with soft and hard coral sits beneath the surface, bow breaking the waterline — anthias, gobies, angelfish, batfish, stingrays and nurse sharks among the residents.
7
Day 7
The Shipyard to Kuredu
Unwind at Kuredu, a teardrop-shaped island with fifty diving sites within easy reach, a private sandbank cinema for the evening and a resort offering wine cellars, undersea restaurants and spa services alongside the reef.
8
Day 8
Kuredu to Dhigali
Conclude your charter at Dhigali, a premium castaway island of coral cays, a PADI dive centre, watersports, multiple pools and the Lakshadweep Sea at its most blue — a fittingly complete final stop.

FAQs

When is the best time for a Maldives yacht charter?

November to April is peak season with the clearest visibility and most settled conditions. May to October offers excellent diving with more chance of whale shark encounters in certain atolls.

How many atolls can we visit in one week?

Typically 2–3 atolls and 5–8 dive or island stops, depending on pace and routing. The South Malé to Lhaviyani route covers exceptional variety within a comfortable week.

Is the Maldives suitable for families?

Yes. Warm, shallow water across many of the atolls, the bioluminescent plankton experience, turtle encounters and resort facilities at stops like Kuredu make it very family-friendly.

Can I combine the Maldives with other destinations?

The Maldives is typically chartered as a standalone destination given its remote Indian Ocean location. Malé is well connected by international flights and works well as the embarkation and disembarkation point.
