THE BALEARIC ISLANDS – FAVOURITE PLACES FOR FOODIES

We’ve picked out six mouth-watering places to eat in the Balearics. Whether you love a formal or only a few after dinner drinks these are definitely worth a visit.

Zaranda (Es Capdella, Mallorca)

Zaranda is located away from the crowd, in the land near Andratx. The 2 Michelin starred restaurant welcomes its clients in the magnificent Castell de Son Claret. Joan Miro i Ferra, Zaranda’s famous Chef, indulges its guests promoting the finest Spanish products with a pinch of sophistication. His moto says it all ‘Para ser univeral hay que ser local‘ (to be universal you also have to be local). After a day at sea, dining at Zaranda, is the kind of experience that no words can describe.

Flanigan (Puerto Portals, Mallorca)

Whether heading there for a coffee or the ‘Pata Negra’ traditional plate, you will always enjoy the relaxed and professional service. Established for more than 30 years ago, Flanigan is an institution that should be religiously visited by anyone chartering in Mallorca for the first time (at least !).

Amante (Cala Sol d’en Serra, Ibiza)

Near Cala Llonga, Santa Eulalia, overlooking a striking rugged coastline, foodies rave about this luxury restaurant for the quality and specialness of its cuisine and service. Enjoying a relaxed ambiance, specialities include Ibiza’s famous sobrasada (spiced meat dish) and Salicornia seaweed. Another favourite is chargrilled Formentera squid served with mashed potatoes. You may want to time your visit for its gastronomic cinema nights, taking place weekly, or its morning Yoga classes.

Chezz Gerdi (Es Pujol, Formentera)

Tuck into succulent grilled to perfection freshly caught seafood and meat (sourced from the finest Spanish, Italian and French producers). By day this hippie Caribbean styled beach restaurant is a perfect place to unwind over a spot of lunch on the boardwalk with your feet dangling in the warm waters. By sundown, the vibe is effortlessly cool with mixologists serving cocktails (try the green tea and gin creation) to chilled sounds.

Aiyanna (Cala Nova bay, Es Cana, Ibiza)

‘Boho’ and ‘barefoot chic’ are just some of words used to sum-up the style of this beach restaurant, made famous by the founders of the Amante Beach Club. The style is laid-back and the food is influenced by the Eastern Mediterranean. Vegans and vegetarians are well catered for with fresh lively salads and the Green Tabolulé (made with edamame, lentils, peas and goji with citrus dressing) being stand-out choices. The bar is perfect for chilling with comfy beanbags to spread out on. Plus along with the appetising food and welcoming colourful aesthetically pleasing spaces, the beach views are eye-candy in themselves.

Covo D’en Xoroi (Menorca)

According to their publicity, serving drinks is all they do at this bar but what a setting! Bars don’t come more spectacular than this. Taking the space of a cave, high up in a cliff, Covo D’en Xoroi, makes a big impression with an amazing vantage point over the mesmerizing Mediterranean waters.  International DJs play here, while partying lasts from 11.30am into the small hours. The ideal spot for sipping afternoon wine and sundowning cocktails as the sky gradually turns an inky black.
